This article is devoted to the figure of David, king of Israel, and the way in which, through the use of typological symbolism, he was summoned as a model and prefiguration for some Christian rulers in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries: Sverrir Sigurðarson portrayed himself as the “David of Norway”; Louis IX was compared to David for his Christian virtues; for John Lackland the comparison had to emphasize the electivity of the English monarchy; finally, from Jerusalem Frederick II, the universal emperor and Lord’s anointed, presented himself as king David’s legitimate heir and successor.
L’articolo è dedicato alla figura di Davide, re d’Israele, e al modo in cui, tramite il ricorso al simbolismo tipologico, egli fu evocato come modello e prefigurazione di alcuni sovrani cristiani tra XII e XIII secolo: Sverrir Sigurðarson raffigurò se stesso come il “Davide della Norvegia”; Luigi IX fu accostato a Davide per le sue virtù cristiane; per Giovanni Senzaterra il paragone doveva ricordare al re l’elettività della monarchia inglese; infine da Gerusalemme Federico II, imperatore universale e unto del Signore, si presentò al mondo come legittimo erede e successore di Davide.
