NEW HOUSING IN ROME: A CHALLENGE FOR ABDR ARCHITECTS My paper investigates a design of new housing built in Rome with an innovative international competition that involves the construction companies to invest in public-private housing. These buildings are constructed as a replacement of some buildings in Rome in 2000 were going to collapse. The emergence of the reconstruction was well understood by the municipality that has made it an opportunity to upgrade the entire district, through a competition of demolition and reconstruction of the housing. In 2006, won the competition a group of companies together with the important Italian study ABDR. The new buildings partially reconstruct the spaces demolished, so that the people when they return to homes they can find the familiarity of previous accommodation. Of the 104 new apartments are intended for evicted families, 10 owned by the municipality and 46 to the construction company of which form the profit. The reconstructed buildings have a high architectural quality and an energy saving system. Key words: residential, urban planning, social housing
