F.W. Deakin, The Brutal Friendship. Mussolini, Hitler and the Fall of Italian Fascism (London, 1962) published documents concerning the Italian Social Republic, which in the Italian translation are currently shortened and even modified. For instance there is an important “Note” written by Mussolini to Hitler on July 20th, 1944, regarding the release of Italian prisoners of war held in Germany. This essay deals with the intriguing translation, edited by Renzo De Felice (Turin, Einaudi, 1963).
L’edizione inglese del volume di F.W. Deakin, The Brutal Friendship. Mussolini, Hitler and the Fall of Italian Fascism (Londra, 1962) pubblica dei documenti sulla Repubblica Sociale Italiana che sono tagliati e interpolati. Tra questi, un importante “Appunto” di Mussolini a Hitler del 20 luglio 1944, sulla liberazione degli internati militari italiani in Germania. Questo saggio fa luce sulla complessa edizione italiana del volume, curato da Renzo De Felice (Torino, Einaudi, 1963), e riporta in Appendice il testo originale inedito dell’“Appunto” di Mussolini a Hitler.
