The paper aims at illustrating one of the most ancient specimen of Maghribi script. The f. 2r/v of the manuscript Vatican Library, Vat.lat. 12900 is a digraphic parchment in Latin and Arabic datable to the end of the 9th century AD. The scripts, Wisigothic and Maghribi, may have been written by the same hand. An hypothesis about the birth of the Maghribi script, especially its pen, under the influence of Western scribal traditions is made.
