Especially intended for undergraduate university students wishing to become professionals in the tourist sector, this course aims at providing a useful toolkit for discussing the features of different tourist promotional texts. It helps students identify and use functional expressions and structures in order to understand how texts are rendered more effective through exploitation of lexico-grammar resources. The theoretical background against which this course has been drawn up combines Halliday’s Functional Grammar and Lewis’s Lexical Approach. The intention is to make students aware of how tourist texts work, while they absorb and practise the structures and lexis capable of achieving effective promotion in the field of tourism.
Il panorama editoriale è certamente ricco di manuali destinati all’insegnamento dell’inglese turistico, ma la novità di questo itinerario didattico consiste nella traduzione metodologico-operativa di contribuiti teorici diversi: il Lexical Approach di Lewis, la prospettiva funzionale di Halliday e l’Appraisal Theory messa a punto da Martin e White. Il ruolo centrale è svolto dall’analisi testuale condotta per exempla e con una raffinata strumentazione in grado di evidenziare le strategie linguistiche utilizzate dai promotori per raccontare i luoghi turistici in forma accattivante e convincente.
