In the perspective of Generation IV nuclear reactors development, and before reaching a standardized industrial diffusion, some problems have to be overcome. Concerning the Sodium Fast Reactors (SFRs), one of the main issues is the Sodium-Water Reaction (SWR) within the Steam Generators (SGs). If sodium comes into contact with steam or water within a failed SG, a violent chemical reaction producing explosive (H2), caustic and corrosive (NaOH) reaction products would occur. In order to prevent any SWR, an innovative solution based on a double barrier separation between the water and the primary sodium, the “Candle” concept, has been developed. The present paper is aimed at evaluating, by means of a simplified model, the mechanical consequences of a SWR occurring within a Candle.

Abstract
The present paper is aimed at evaluating, by means of a simplified model, the mechanical consequences of a SWR occurring within a Candle.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
