Crossing the Rubicon…and back: Twenty years of the Italian Northern League

"The Italian Lega Nord (Northern League, LN) is the oldest party among those currently represented in the Italian parliament. Since then, the LN has been at the centre of Italian political debate and more than twenty years after its foundation continues to be an important and relevant party in the Italian system. From an ideological viewpoint, LN’s voters tend to be self-located in the middle of the left–right continuum, consistent with the leadership’s goal of creating a non- (or post-)ideological party.
