Three fractions of particulate matter are been collected: PM10, PM2.5, TSP, in the center of Rome, during a monitoring period of one year. On each particle fraction analysis of the following heavy metals was performed: Pb, Cd, V, Cr e Ni. Airborne particle concentrations are higher in the cold period, with an enrichment in airborne finer particles during winter period. Metals concentrations were very low and did not exceed the values recommended in the WHO air quality guidelines and among the metals considered, Cd, Pb and V are distributed predominantly in fine particles, while Cr and Ni are more equally distributed in all fractions.
