The article analyses the legal and scientific aspects of the Athlete Biological Passport, which is an indirect method to detect blood doping by monitoring the variations of each athlete’s blood parameters over time. The decisions of the Court of Arbitration for Sport are taken into account. According to CAS jurisprudence, the Passport is a legally admissible and reliable evidentiary means. Given the complex scientific issues at stake, the outcome of Passport cases mostly depends on the hearing panel’s appraisal of the expert evidence before it.
