The University Counseling Services were established in the United States in the late 1930s and afterwards became widely popular in Europe. Psychological counseling plays a primary role to fight the stigma against mental illness and significantly contributes to prevention. In November 2008, the university counseling service “Fatti vivo!” was established in “Sapienza” University of Rome. It addresses the university students, particularly medical students. The service provides 3-4 weekly meetings with a six-months follow-up and, if necessary, a post-counseling individual or group therapy and/or pharmacotherapy. We received 160 requests and 132 route consultations were activated, with a drop-out percentage of 21,6%. The mean age of the sample was 24,7 years (37,3% Male, 62,7% Female). While the 21,6% of the sample reported troubles to study, the 50% reported difficulties to study connected with other problems (such as anxiety, asthenia, difficulty in relationships) and the 28,4% reported psychiatric symptoms. The 23,5% of the students were diagnosed with at least one Axis I psychiatric di¬sorder, assessed by DSM IV-TR. The 43,1% of the sample was proposed a post-counseling group psychotherapy, while the 25,5% received other indications (individual psychotherapy and/or pharmacotherapy).
