Faecal incontinence is a socially and psychically disabling symptom and has an important public health impact. Surgery could be considered in those patients who failed to respond to behavioral and medical treatment. Use of bulking agents can be considered a good compromise before resorting to open surgery, especially for high-risk patients where surgery should be avoided. Retrospective analysis of 46 patients treated with various bulking agents for the treatment of mild to moderate faecal incontinence was carried out. Clinical and manometric findings showed a significant difference between preoperative and two-years evaluations.
