Between 2005 and 2010, the number of inhabitants of the Abruzzo Region increased by 2.8%, due to a migratory balance notably higher than the natural balance. The April 6, 2009 earthquake caused serious damage to houses and commercial buildings and is now changing the demographic dynamics of several municipalities, and particularly of L’Aquila. This paper analyses the data immediately previous to and following the seismic event, and attention is focussed on the natural and migratory balances. Therefore, the main social-demographic effects produced by earthquake in the different municipalities and in the whole seismic crater are shown
