The role played by the family in the development and maintenance of both the symptom and the risk of relapse of the patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder clearly emerges from the assessment process during therapy. These aspects become particularly evident in the cases in which the clinician happens to perceive the presence of family’s accommodation, which includes peculiar attitudes and behaviours of adaptation from the part of the family to the patients dysfunctional requests. The presence of an accommodating attitude on the part of a family it is generally considered as a Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder bad outcomes predictor in the area of symptoms, as well as in the areas of social and working functioning, and family burden that is made up stressful experiences, disagreement and social isolation. A correct evaluation of these family risk factors, that in our study proved to be particularly frequent, turns out to be very important to make the proper choice of both therapeutic goals and interventions Summary The role played by the family in the development and maintenance of both the symptom and the risk of relapse of the patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder clearly emerges from the assessment process during therapy. Abstract
