The vast literature devoted to the work of Hannah Arendt's critique has for years shared fairly standardized interpretation that makes the author a nostalgic and anti-modernist thinker, animated dall'anacronistica intention to replicate the model of the Greek polis in front of the decline of the public sphere typical of the modern age, in such a way that very few of its conceptual categories, if any, would be relevant for understanding the contemporary reality. Against this background, it is proposed here a re-reading of the controversial relationship between Hannah Arendt and modernity. Even in light of the contributions of the more recent historiography - characterized by a more critical and aware that waiving the intent to deliver once and for all the author to a particular school of thought - it is possible, on the contrary, take the total Arendt's thought a dual sign indication decidedly "modernist", both in relation to the judgment of the same against the modern age, both in relation to current events of some of his proposals.
La vastissima letteratura critica dedicata all’opera di Hannah Arendt ha per anni condiviso un’interpretazione piuttosto standardizzata che fa dell’autrice una pensatrice nostalgica ed antimodernista, animata dall’anacronistica intenzione di riproporre il modello della polis greca di fronte al declino della sfera pubblica tipico dell’età moderna, in modo tale che pochissime delle sue categorie concettuali, se non nessuna, sarebbero rilevanti per capire la realtà contemporanea. Su questo sfondo, si propone qui una rilettura del controverso rapporto tra Hannah Arendt e la modernità. Anche alla luce degli apporti della storiografia più recente – caratterizzata da un approccio più critico e consapevole, che rinuncia all’intento di consegnare una volta per tutte l’autrice a una determinata scuola di pensiero –, è possibile, al contrario, trarre complessivamente dal pensiero arendtiano una duplice indicazione di segno decisamente “modernista”, sia in relazione al giudizio della stessa nei confronti dell’età moderna, sia in relazione all’attualità di alcune sue proposte.
