Passive motion of ankle and foot in adolescents with flat or cavus foot The range of passive motion of the ankle in flexion-extension and of the foot in inversion-eversion and adduction-abduction was evaluated by an arthrogoniometer in 320 adolescents aged 11 to 14 years. Of the subjects examined, 69% had a normal plantar arch, 13% a flat foot of slight, moderate or marked entity and 18% a cavus foot of varying severity. The individuals with moderate or marked flat foot showed a slight to marked reduction of both flexion-extension of the ankle andinversion-eversion and adduction-abduction of the foot. Instead, a normal range of motion of the ankle and foot was found in the subjects with cavus foot; the only exception was rapresented by those with marked pes cavus associated with calcaneus varus, in whom the eversion of the foot was reduced.
