This preliminary study has considered the Ninevite 5 phenomenon from the point of view of its social function and communicative features in the specific political and historical context in which it has been produced. It is very significant that Ninevite 5 horizon has been identified, and is usually recognized for its painted, incised and excised specimens, though their percentage is very scanty compared to simple ware. Maybe this means that the codes of decorated ware are active and meaningful, though not understood, also for our shared heritage of references.

Abstract

This preliminary study has considered the Ninevite 5 phenomenon from the point of view of its social function and communicative features in the specific political and historical context in which it has been produced. It is very significant that Ninevite 5 horizon has been identified, and is usually recognized for its painted, incised and excised specimens, though their percentage is very scanty compared to simple ware. Maybe this means that the codes of decorated ware are active and meaningful, though not understood, also for our shared heritage of references.
