We report two cases of anorectal melanoma in which immunohistochemical techniques, essenti al for the differenti al diagnosis, allowed the observation of melanocytes in the anorectal zone also. The prognosis of anorectal melanoma is poor, whatever the treatment; therefore, while at theearlier stages of the disease the treatment of choice is a radica! surgical resection, in all other stages a more limited procedure is indicated, giving priority to quality of life.
