From the bark of Rauwolfia grandiflora a new monoterpenoid δ-lactone, isoboonein, was isolated together with boonein, loganin and loganic acid. The structure of isoboonein, established by spectroscopical methods, was confirmed by partial synthesis from loganic acid.
