La riproduzione intergenerazionale delle diseguaglianze in Italia: istruzione, occupazione e retribuzioni

Making use of the information collected in the survey Isfol PLUS 2006, the article investigates the process of intergenerational transmission of inequality in Italy, considering the employment of parents as proxy variable of family background. After showing the degree of association of the occupations held by parents and children, the mechanism of intergenerational reproduction of inequality is evaluated by observing the results of the bond between children and parental characteristics in two stages, alleging, first, access to positions otherwise advantageous in terms of qualification and employment, the second, the presence of additional wage differentials even if the same results achieved in the first stage. It also assesses the extent to which any such differential is associated with the interaction of the occupations of parents and children, or is linked to the method of job search.

Facendo uso delle informazioni rilevate nell’indagine ISFOL PLUS del 2006, nell’articolo si indaga il processo di trasmissione intergenerazionale delle diseguaglianze in Italia, considerando l’occupazione dei genitori come variabile proxy del background familiare. Dopo aver mostrato il grado di associazione delle occupazioni svolte da genitori e figli, il meccanismo di riproduzione intergenerazionale delle diseguaglianze viene valutato osservando il legame fra risultati dei figli e caratteristiche dei genitori in due stadi successivi, relativi, il primo, all’accesso a posizioni diversamente vantaggiose in termini di titolo di studio ed occupazione, il secondo, alla presenza di ulteriori differenziali retributivi anche a parità di esiti raggiunti nel primo stadio. Si valuta inoltre in quale misura tale eventuale differenziale sia associato all’interazione delle occupazioni di genitori e figli o sia connesso alle modalità di ricerca del posto di lavoro.
