Chromium(III) ion reacts with pyrazinecarboxylic acids [pyrazine-2-carboxylic(2-HL) and pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic(2,3-H2L)] forming sol. or solid compds., depending on exptl. conditions. By using spectrophotometric methods, the acid-base equil. of the ligands and those of their Cr(III) complexes are studied. For both systems, Cr(III)-2-HL and Cr(III)-2,3-H2L, only mononuclear species with metal/ligand ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 were found (in acidic medium 1M NaClO4 and 25°). The spectrophotometric characteristics and the equil. consts. of the ligands and their Cr(III) complexes are reported. The solid compds. were analyzed by diffuse reflectance, IR spectrophotometry, and by thermal anal. (TG, DTG, DTA)
