An overview of the nonlinear experimental analysis of complex dynamics in structural systems is presented. General issues concerned with detection and classification of regular and complex dynamics are addresses, focusing on the reconstruction of dynamic properties from experimental investigations and on how to determine spatial properties of nonlinear response. Some main nonlinear dynamics phenomena are illustrated by referring to a cable/mass experimental model, which plays an archetypal role in the analysis of flexible systems. Characterization of non-regular responses and analysis of relevant experimental bifurcation scenarios are addressed. The overview ends by dwelling on some perspectives about how nonlinear dynamics can affect future engineering design.

Abstract
An overview of the nonlinear experimental analysis of complex dynamics in structural systems is presented. General issues concerned with detection and classification of regular and complex dynamics are addresses, focusing on the reconstruction of dynamic properties from experimental investigations and on how to determine spatial properties of nonlinear response. Some main nonlinear dynamics phenomena are illustrated by referring to a cable/mass experimental model, which plays an archetypal role in the analysis of flexible systems. Characterization of non-regular responses and analysis of relevant experimental bifurcation scenarios are addressed. The overview ends by dwelling on some perspectives about how nonlinear dynamics can affect future engineering design.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
