The paper presents an integrated software package developed during a research project financed by the EEC DGXII (Contract # MA1M-0063-C(TT)). This package makes it possible to assess different technical-economic alternatives for underground mining exploitation by means of model simulations of some of the processes involved in the main phases of mining operation, e.g. the final design of the mining method and production planning. The inputs are geostatistical numerical models of the orebody and its outputs are the parametrization of the orebody boundaries and the short and medium term production planning. The software package was developed using the general characteristics of Neves Corvo Mining (Portugal), and the paper describes its application to this case. However it has a modular architecture and can be applied in other contexts as well.
