A comparison among numerical methods to solve transient problems is presented. The finite difference-time domain (FD-TD) method, the nodal-based finite element-time domain (FE-TD) method and the vector finite element-time domain (VFE-TD) method are examined. The theoretical approach adopted in the three methods is discussed. Finally, numerical results are compared in the solution of a simple 2-D problem.

Abstract

A comparison among numerical methods to solve transient problems is presented. The finite difference-time domain (FD-TD) method, the nodal-based finite element-time domain (FE-TD) method and the vector finite element-time domain (VFE-TD) method are examined. The theoretical approach adopted in the three methods is discussed. Finally, numerical results are compared in the solution of a simple 2-D problem.
