SUMMARY (The first aid management at the Italian National Institute of Health) - As a public institution, the Italian National Institute of Health is obliged to provide emergency functions on the workplace, in particular first aid management. In Italy, the legislative decree no. 81/2008 has given more systematic attention to the issue as a general emergency (article no. 43) and about the organization and management that it's compulsorily for the institution to acquire (article no. 30). Therefore, it is a specific requirement of law to develop human resources, organization and operational procedures until appropriate medical personnel arrives in order to prevent worker's further complications. It is also necessary to train the personnel in an adequate way, especially for what concerns the Basic Life Support and Defibrillation (BLS-D): standardized and organized interventions represent a valid response while waiting for medical assistance. Key words: cardiac arrest; first aid; defibrillator
