This paper analyses the foundations of the comparative-reconstructive method and tries to demonstrate why this method cannot be used for languages such as Japanese and Korean, in contrast with the theories advanced by long range comparatists and other scholars who claim that Japanese and Korean are related to the Altaic languages.
