R(NH)2O2SC6H4Me-4 [R = Me3CCH2, Me(CH2)15, cyclohexyl, 2-methylcyclohexyl, 5α-cholestan-3β-yl, 17β-hydroxyandrostan-3-yl, 17β-acetoxyandrostanyl] underwent H2O2/Na2O2 oxidn. in THF at room temp. to give 87-95% ROOH. A reaction mechanism is postulated involving formation of a p-tolylsulfonylazaalkane, present in the reaction medium in the form of an ion-pair [RN+≡N 4-MeC6H4SO2-].
