obiettivo principale è quello di proporre sotto una luce particolare la "centralità" che Roma ha rivestito nel contesto italiano e, in certa misura, in quello europeo. Il periodo consderato è quello che segue l'esaurirsi dello scisma, il definitivo radicamento del papato nella città, il funzionamento a pieno regime del papato restaurato, dunque, la seconda metà del Quattrocento, prendendo come punto di arrivo l'evento traumatico del "sacco".
