In Italy there are over thousand company archives, and public policy is working on its conservation and promotion. Often companies use the archive only for administration necessity, not perceiving the opportunity inside it for the management. The history of a company can help to manage it well, to avoid errors already made in the past, it is useful to convince shareholders, investors, or other managers. The function of company archive is also towards employees, for building corporate identity, necessary for efficient productivity. Middle managers can use the company memory stored in the archive to communicate products and company image, for marketing. Unfortunately, the top management not always has a clear vision of these archive functions and important history stored inside company archives is often lost.
