The aim of the present paper was to evaluate whether Obstructive sleep apnea sindrome (OSAS) represent a futher risk factor in glaucomatous optic neuropathy, in consideration of the new definition of primary open angle glaucoma as “a multifactorial neuro-opticopathy”. 48 patients with OSAS were evaluated. Our results allow to hypotesize that repeated apnea episodis are also involved in optic neuropathy secondary to alterations in the mechanisms 2 of autoregulation of blood flow in the optic nerve.

Abstract
The aim of the present paper was to evaluate whether Obstructive sleep apnea sindrome (OSAS) represent a futher risk factor in glaucomatous optic neuropathy, in consideration of the new definition of primary open angle glaucoma as “a multifactorial neuro-opticopathy”. 48 patients with OSAS were evaluated. Our results allow to hypotesize that repeated apnea episodis are also involved in optic neuropathy secondary to alterations in the mechanisms 2 of autoregulation of blood flow in the optic nerve.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
