Abstract
Annus mirabilis was 1960 for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. "Myoglobin is the H-atom and hemoglobin the H(2)-molecule of molecular biology", a quote attributed to J. C. Kendrew and M. F. Perutz. For approximately half-a-century, myoglobin and hemoglobin have been ideal and versatile models for studying the structure-function relationships in globular proteins. The work carried out by Perutz to unveil the molecular basis of allosteric cooperativity, the mechanism of molecular diseases and adaptation to physiological requirements are briefly outlined.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
