The writer, playwright and painter Peter Weiss finds through a close and pluriennial reading of Dante’s Commedia the patterns to give aesthetic representation to the unconceivable horror of Auschwitz. This article tries to point out the shape and method of Weiss’ rewriting of Dante and also to give account of the final concealement of the Dantesque reference in the published “Paradiso” as “ Die Ermittlung” and of the decision of leaving his “Inferno” unpublished.
