The problem of the reduction of the seismic risk of existing facilities and lifelines (in particular road networks) by appropriate upgrading interventions, under a constraint on the amount of available resources, is discussed. More specifically, an optimal allocation procedure for reducing the risk of an existing road network is presented. The vulnerable elements of the network are reinforced concrete bridges. Different objective functions are considered in the context of single- and multi-objective optimal allocation by means of dynamic programming. The results are illustrated with reference to an example case.

Abstract
The problem of the reduction of the seismic risk of existing facilities and lifelines (in particular road networks) by appropriate upgrading interventions, under a constraint on the amount of available resources, is discussed. More specifically, an optimal allocation procedure for reducing the risk of an existing road network is presented. The vulnerable elements of the network are reinforced concrete bridges. Different objective functions are considered in the context of single- and multi-objective optimal allocation by means of dynamic programming. The results are illustrated with reference to an example case.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
