The paper describes the results of testing and validation of CityLog©, a software tool developed by ENEA (Italian Agency for the Environment, New Technologies and Environment) and the Department of Transport of University of Rome “La Sapienza”, allowing the manager of a City Terminal to define in real-time the best delivering program even in a “within day” operational scheme. Firstly the authors briefly discuss the modelling framework and provide a concise description of the solution procedure, which is based on a two-string genetic algorithm that solves the Vehicle Routing Problem with vehicle capacity and time window constraints. Finally, they describe the results obtained by simulating the actual operation at the urban terminal of Padua Interport and a comparison with the results provided by Transcad, one of the most popular software packages for transportation planning.
