Codes, standards and legislation continue to proliferate, placing an increasing regulatory burden upon manufactures that must not only be aware, but also comply. Globalization is driving the need for codes, standards and legislation, helping to ensure that first, products manufactured in one location can be sold in any other and second, that products imported into a location from another are fit for purpose. The demand for improved codes standards and legislation to ensure that the world market place constitutes a “level playing field” is relentless, with increasing focus by politicians within the European Union on third-party testing to validate manufactures claims. This workshop aims to gather contributions that ranges from a discussion of the role the forthcoming Energy Using Product Directive will play in the near future, to the actual impact of the AtEx directive on the design and development of compliant products, to a debate about impact of codes, standards and legislations within the waste water treatment market segment. As such the workshop studies the impact of impending and existing codes, standards and legislation on product design and development and the waste water treatment market segment, a market segment that is becoming increasingly important globally.
