Special-purpose computational fluid mechanics techniques targeting turbomachinery are becoming more and more effective in better understanding of the flow problems in this important application area. Many challenges, including turbulent flow features or heat-transfer, are still in need of improved modeling techniques. The demand for improved design concept has driven the development of new branches in Fluid Dynamics focused on those features associated with internal flow configurations and three-dimensional motions with embedded streamwise vorticity, pertinent to the turbomachinery. In this respect this workshop aims to gather contributions that ranges from the critical discussion of the role that CFD presently plays in industrial design concepts, to the proposal of viable new modeling approaches for turbulence computation, or the presentation of advances in heat transfer modeling in gas turbines.
