Metabolic overload and atherosclerosis are the leading cause of disability and death which become an increasing problem for the population in industrial countries with a major impact on health care costs in western world. Hallmark of energy overload diseases is perturbation of lipid metabolism, in multiple cells and tissues that induce metabolic adaptation, lipotoxicity and transdifferentiation of metabolic organs. Lipids are basic building units for biomembranes, where the vast majority of cellular functions take place.

Abstract
Metabolic overload and atherosclerosis are the leading cause of disability and death which become an increasing problem for the population in industrial countries with a major impact on health care costs in western world. Hallmark of energy overload diseases is perturbation of lipid metabolism, in multiple cells and tissues that induce metabolic adaptation, lipotoxicity and transdifferentiation of metabolic organs.
