These are the positions that have accompanied the history of the medium and they do, however, emerge the constant interest among intellectuals, media and public opinion. Signs of repeated seizures? Maybe. But perhaps even signs of recognition of the power of visual communication and its social implications. Even today, after more than five decades, we continue to raise the question of the role of television in the renewed social and cultural life, especially in conditions of economic crisis and beyond. Skimming the history of Italy, substantial differences emerge in the way in which the report is processed crisis - television. Within the frame of interpretation of each of the stages of development of the medium, you can find a time that the public debate has been characterized as a crisis, that is, break, break with the past.
Nei suoi 56 anni di storia ufficiale, la tv ha rappresentato per l’Italia il volano dei cambiamenti, a volte propulsore di vere e proprie rivoluzioni nel costume, nel linguaggio e nel senso comune quotidiano, nell’espressione dei bisogni e dei gusti. E proprio per la sua centralità nella vita sociale, culturale e politica del paese è stata spesso bersaglio di controversie e aspre critiche. Si tratta di prese di posizione che hanno accompagnato la storia del mezzo e che fanno, comunque, emergere il costante interesse suscitato tra intellettuali, media e opinione pubblica. Segni di crisi ripetute? Forse. Ma forse ancora segnali di riconoscimento del potere della comunicazione audiovisiva e delle sue implicazioni sociali. Ancor oggi, a distanza di più di cinque decenni, continuiamo a porci il problema del ruolo della rinnovata tv nella vita sociale e culturale, soprattutto in condizioni di crisi economica e non solo. Scorrendo velocemente la storia dell’Italia, emergono sostanziali differenze nelle modalità con cui viene elaborato il rapporto crisi – televisione. Dentro la cornice interpretativa di ciascuna delle fasi di sviluppo del mezzo, si può individuare un momento che nel dibattito pubblico è stato caratterizzato come crisi, cioè rottura, discontinuità rispetto al passato .
