The reflectivity spectra of both a coninuous and several discontinuous gold films evaporated onto fused quartz substrates have been measured between 15 and 35 eV using synchrotron radiation. The spectra of very thin films are attenuated and shifted predominantly towards higher energies relative the continuous gold film. The shifts are explained in terms of a modification of the band structure of gold induced by the contraction of the fcc nearest-neighbour distance.

Abstract
The reflectivity spectra of both a coninuous and several discontinuous gold films evaporated onto fused quartz substrates have been measured between 15 and 35 eV using synchrotron radiation. The spectra of very thin films are attenuated and shifted predominantly towards higher energies relative the continuous gold film. The shifts are explained in terms of a modification of the band structure of gold induced by the contraction of the fcc nearest-neighbour distance.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
