The essay is structured in two parts: 1) short presentation of the aims and methods of the research on the representation of emotions; 2) examination of the concepts of ‘clean-dirty’ and ‘pure-impure’ in traditional China, and their multifarious meanings, through the analysis of various kinds of sources. Il saggio consta di due parti: 1) breve presentazione degli obiettivi e dei metodi della ricerca sulla rappresentazione degli stati mentali; 2) esame dei concetti di ‘puro-impuro’ e ‘pulito-sudicio’ nella Cina tradizionale, e degli svariati significati che assumono nei vari contesti.
