An extension of the polarity coincidence (PC) method for estimating the center frequency of a power spectral density (PSD) is proposed. By applying Price's theorem, the variance of this new estimator for Gaussian processes is evaluated. Its performance is compared and related to those of the averaged output of an ideal tuned FM receiver.
