The use of GPR for Mars exploration has been suggested by several authors in the past ten years. Some of the instruments proposed in the late 90s were designed to investigate the subsurface at great depth (thousands of meters) and therefore implemented a measurement technique quite different from traditional GPR. The interest toward a detailed investigation of the first few meters of Mars subsurface, linked to the exploration of past or present life on the planet, requires, however, the use of such a traditional technique, which is well established and has been widely applied on the Earth.
