The long-term variations of the ozone column density, observed in the Antarctic atmosphere in the period 1964-1985, are studied in connection with the trend of the geomagnetic activity. While the current view accounts for the ozone depletion entirely in terms of chemical and dynamical processes occurring in the atmosphere, it is shown that the present experimental evidences rely favorably on the contribution of geomagnetic phenomena such as aurorae, induced by solar related disturbances.
