When a model-driven approach is used within the development of accessible interfaces for deaf users, several issues arise. In fact, iconic instruments have to be considered as they fits well the visual approach to knowledge of deaf people. Hence, adequate modeling instruments must be used in order to describe all the interactive facets that such interfaces present. In this paper the development of iconic stories for a Deaf-centered E-Learning Environment as well as interactive tools for representing written Sign Language (by means of the SignWriting code) is discussed.

Abstract

When a model-driven approach is used within the development of accessible interfaces for deaf users, several issues arise. In fact, iconic instruments have to be considered as they fits well the visual approach to knowledge of deaf people. Hence, adequate modeling instruments must be used in order to describe all the interactive facets that such interfaces present. In this paper the development of iconic stories for a Deaf-centered E-Learning Environment as well as interactive tools for representing written Sign Language (by means of the SignWriting code) is discussed.
