The author analyses Max Weber’s methodological essays in order to clarify three important issues: I) Weber’s position concerning the historical and sociological approach based on intuition and empathy; II) Weber’s idea of the causal explanation by comparison with Hempel’s inductive-statistical model of explanation; III) Weber’s thought on resorting to the theory in support the causal accounts of historical events and social phenomena.
