An intrinsic description of the "group manifold approach" to supergravity is given. Emphasis is placed on some geometric structures which allow us to obtain a direct full covariant formulation. In particular, the geometric theory of partial differential equations allows us to give a dynamic description of space-time. Some applications to physically interesting situations are discussed in detail.

Abstract
