The abstract describesn the morphofunctional and ultrastructural changes taking place in the human carotid artery wall in cases of advances atherosclerosis. Emphasis is given on the alterations of the endothelium, the presence of calcifications, the alterations of the extracellular matrix, and the presence of foam and inflammatory cells.
