This paper presents a novel UWB printed monopole antenna designed to be part of a UWB radar system for heartbeat activity monitoring. The antenna has a compact size, a very good fidelity factor, and is matched in the 3.1 ÷ 10.6 GHz frequency range. Simulations in the presence of a thorax model have been conducted indicating that by using a radar UWB equipped with a suitable antenna the heart movements can be monitored
