The article compares epigraphic data from the ancient Syrian settlements of Emar, Ekalte and Basiru with the archaeological data from the excavated sites in order to reconstruct both urban and rural features of the ancient town and its surroundings. The paper deals especially with the shape and location of hoses, ruins and fields.
