The article reconstructs the number and name of the city gates of the ancient towm Emar, in the middle Euphrates valley (Syria), in the Late Bronze age. The settlement was excavated as a rescue project during the building of a big dam, thus no information on the location of the ancient city gates is preserved from the archaeological data. The retrieval of private archives in family houses proved to be extremely precious also in the reconstruction of the ancient topography of the city. The frequent attestation of KA.GAL abullu, city gate, and KA babu, gate, is discussed in the text.
