Poly(p-phenylene sulfide) was crystd. from dil. solns. of Ph2O at 151-212. The effect of the crystn. conditions was investigated by IR spectroscopy, showing the importance of air in inducing dibenzothiophenic structures in the polymer. The melting behavior of the crystals was studied as well as the d. characteristics as a function of the crystn. temp. Substantially high values of the d. of the crystd. samples were found (ρ = 1.42-1.44 g cm-1) which may with difficulty fit the theor. expectations based on the crystal structure of this polymer that is commonly accepted in the literature.

Abstract
Poly(p-phenylene sulfide) was crystd. from dil. solns. of Ph2O at 151-212. The effect of the crystn. conditions was investigated by IR spectroscopy, showing the importance of air in inducing dibenzothiophenic structures in the polymer. The melting behavior of the crystals was studied as well as the d. characteristics as a function of the crystn. temp. Substantially high values of the d. of the crystd. samples were found (ρ = 1.42-1.44 g cm-1) which may with difficulty fit the theor. expectations based on the crystal structure of this polymer that is commonly accepted in the literature.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
